Wild lettuce is a member of the daisy/aster family. This plant is well known for its pain-relieving properties. The dried herb contains a variety of sesquiterpene lactones in its milky latex. Although this plant is also known as opium lettuce, it lacks the standard narcotic properties.

Edible use: The leaves are bitter. They can be eaten raw. Boiling them and/or cooking them like spinach removes most of the bitterness.

Wild Lettuce Tea
Infuse one tablespoon of dried herb into 8 oz. of boiling water. Allow tea to steep for ten minutes before consuming.
Wild Lettuce Tincture
Two ounces of dried wild lettuce per cup of vodka. Place all ingredients into a sterile jar. Completely cover the herb with vodka. Allow the tincture to steep in a dark place for four weeks. Shake daily. Strain and store tincture in a dark place for up to five years..
